Who? You don't know who Bethany Balcer is. Neither did I until last night's Pride game against the Reign. She scored a goal against us on a diving header. It was a thing of beauty.
But wait, what was that on her head? It was a concussion headband. It protects her against injury to her brain, so she will know who she is when she's 50 years old.
The powers that be have banned heading for kids under 12 years of age. Bethany's parents, however, required her to use a headband to play when she was a minor.
I think FIFA is going to require kids to use the headband before it will require adults to wear one. How eldumo is that? Well, what is to be expected from FIFA? It only took FIFA from 1885 to 1985, that is a century, to require shin guards. I suspect that FIFA doesn't want to act like football is a dangerous sport for liability reasons.
In the immortal words of Wilie, Momma's don't let your kids grow up to play soccer without wearing a concussion headband.
