How Key Offseason Pickups Can Help Orlando City

With the loss of Nani and Daryl Dike this offseason, Orlando City desperately needed to find new talent to replace such important players. That being said, Orlando City has found skilled young players Facundo Torres (21) a midfielder and Ercan Kara (26) a forward who can make some scoring opportunities of their own for the Lions this season.

Torres, who played last season in Uruguay’s Primera Division, appeared in twelve matches for CA Penarol, netting three goals and six assists in his appearances for the club. He also plays for the Uruguayan National Team where he has made ten appearances since his debut in June of 2021. Torres is an electrifying player to watch, with flashy moves to make defenders miss and loads of speed. His quickness and ability to make chances for himself will be beneficial to Orlando City as it will speed up the pace of the offense and open up opportunities for others to get involved as well. Because Torres is so young, he has the potential to grow into one of the leading forces for Orlando City and when you factor in that his contract keeps him with the Lions through 2025 it is easy to see why he could be a major contributor to the success of this club moving forward.

Kara is a pickup that the Lions managed to grab from the Bundesliga. In the 2021/22 season Kara appeared in seventeen matches for Rapid Vienna where he helped the club reach seventh in the Bundesliga table before his departure to Orlando City. In his seventeen appearances for Rapid Vienna, Kara managed to net nine goals and three assists. During the 2020/21 season, Kara played in thirty-two games for Vienna, where he had fifteen goals and nine assists. Kara also plays for the Austrian National Team and has recorded one assist in World Cup qualifying. Despite being a young player, Kara has experience in one of the biggest divisions in the world, which could help Orlando City immensely in their attempt to make the playoffs this year.

Torres and Kara are two players that should help fill the void left by the departure of Nani and Dike. With the potential for Orlando City to make their third straight appearance in the playoffs, these two pickups will be crucial in the success of the club this season. Don’t be surprised if you hear these two names a lot this season as they will play a big role in Orlando City clinching a playoff spot.
