Which was the best kit the Pride ever wore?

It appears that the new Orlando Pride jersey is set to be released tomorrow. There should be high expectations for this one as the previous kits have gotten better just about every year.

What should be expected this year? Well, purple, for starters. That would seem like a no-brainer, but many teams in various sports have been going away from their primary colors. The Orlando Magic have been rocking an orange uniform, as all of the NBA came out with “City Uniforms.” Manchester City’s 2019-2020 third kit was just atrocious, while it appears Manchester United will be wearing the colors of their rivals next season. But the Pride will likely still be wearing their iconic purple.

The past few years, the jerseys have been designed with Lake Eola in mind. Both the fountain and the swans have been a prominent feature, and that could continue this year.

Ahead of the new jersey launch, here is a look at some of the top jerseys that the Pride have had in the past.

5. 2017 Home

Coming in at number five is the Pride’s 2017 home kit. These are by no means ugly but a bit plain. It is solid purple with light sleeves and stripes by the armholes. Overall, they are a bit boring with no standout features.

These could easily switch places with the 2017 home kit, and honestly, they are probably both tied for the fourth spot. But the tiebreaker goes to the 2016 home kit for being the inaugural jersey. It is another all-solid purple top. The matching design between the sleeves and shorts with the light blue stripes goes nice together as well.

The top three are in a class of their own. This is where the designs really got good. This was one of the Lake Eola-inspired designs and is dubbed the Reflection Jersey. The jerseys are simple enough without being too simple like previous years. It was a great way to show the city some love.

2. 2018 Away

The Eola Energy kit ranks number two in the Pride’s all-time jerseys. A zig-zag and crisscross pattern that is subtle enough to not make you dizzy when looking at it. The purple trim on the neckline and down the sides helps to give it a pop. These were the best away jerseys to that point and another inspiration from Lake Eola.

In my opinion, the top Orlando Pride kit has to be last year’s jersey. There were many ways to go with this, and it could have been better than it is. But, still, it takes the top spot. The White Plume kit features feathers on the sleeves. It is a “tribute to the love and devotion of the Pride’s most passionate fans, including the formidable Exploria Stadium environment that is orchestrated and impassioned by the Club’s recognized supporters group, the Black Swans Drinking Club.”
