Orlando City vs. New York City FC: Photo Gallery

An album of images from the Lions’ penalty shootout win at Exploria Stadium in the 2019 U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals.

It was an epic battle as Orlando City hosted New York City FC last night at Exploria Stadium. With both teams on very little rest, the game was often not as crisp as one might hope and both sides looked gassed in extra time, but marathons are grueling for a reason. The Lions nearly slipped by in normal time but by conceding late and then winning the penalty shootout, they dished out maximum emotional toll on both their opponents and their fans.

Adam Grinwis channeled his inner Peter Parker during spot kicks and your friendly neighborhood goalkeeper became the embodiment of Spider-Man when he stopped Alex Ring and Maxime Chanot to help his side reach the U.S. Open Cup semifinals for the first time ever.

Sebas Mendez, Nani, and Chris Mueller combined on a goal worthy of winning the match in the 61st minute, but an unkind deflection landing right at the feet of NYCFC’s most dangerous player with only a few seconds left in stoppage time forced the need to play deeper into the night. In the end, it was Orlando City’s fan base that went home happy after a 5-4 victory in the penalty shootout.

We hope you enjoy all the scenes we’ve captured from the match.
