Orlando City vs. D.C. United: Photo Gallery

Orlando City fell behind in the first half and tried like hell to rally in the second but it came up just short. Dom Dwyer smashed in a perfect Chris Mueller cross with his head to pull the Lions back within a goal and nearly had the equalizer moments later — a blast that would have been majestic through the purple smoke had it been on target. The game, and some of the officiating decisions, may have gone D.C. United’s way, but somehow this doesn’t feel like the kind of loss the Lions piled up last season.

Orlando out-shot, out-passed, and out-possessed the visitors but just couldn’t find that final clinical finish on too many occasions last night. Still, you couldn’t help but be entertained by the game and perhaps be encouraged at that kind of performance against a team that has looked like an early contender for MLS Cup.
