Good morning, Mane Landers! Happy Veteran’s Day to all those who once served or are still serving in the military. It’s the beginning of another work week, so let’s start it off on the right foot with some links!
Minnesota Shows Interest in Dom Dwyer
The MLS trade window will officially open today at 1 p.m., and Minnesota United is looking to make big changes to its attack. The Twin Cities Pioneer Press confirms that Darwin Quintero is up for trade and that the Loons have their eyes on Orlando City’s Dom Dwyer. Minnesota Head Coach Adrian Heath often refers to Dwyer as one of his success stories when they worked together early in their careers.
USWNT Wins Final 2019 Game
The United States Women’s National Team crushed Costa Rica 6-0 in a friendly in Jacksonville. Carli Lloyd scored in the first 10 minutes for the second straight game and Lynn Williams scored a brace to help the USWNT cruise through the match. Orlando Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris got the start in goal and played for the first half before being replaced by Adrianna Franch at halftime. The USWNT finishes its calendar year with only one loss and as FIFA World Cup champions.
Pride Players Earn International Minutes
Marta started as captain for Brazil and played every minute against China yesterday. The game ended 0-0 and had to go to a penalty shootout, where Marta did not take a penalty and China was victorious.
Shelina Zadorsky got the start in Canada’s 3-0 win over New Zealand to close out the international season. She was subbed off in the 46th minute.
Next up are the Matildas and the 2-1 win over Chile. Alanna Kennedy didn’t play, but Emily van Egmond got the start, had an assist on Sam Kerr’s first of two goals, and was then subbed off in the second half.
Sounders Win MLS Cup
The Seattle Sounders won the MLS Cup after a 3-1 win at home against Toronto FC. The match drew the largest crowd ever to CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Toronto dominated possession in the first half and the teams were scoreless at the half. It was Seattle that came back out with energy, starting with a shot from Kelvin Leerdam that bounced off a defender’s knee to open the scoring. It was followed by Victor Rodriguez’s shot from the top of the box in the 76th and Raul Ruidiaz’s breakaway chip in the 90th. Jozy Altidore did score in added time, but it was too little, too late for the Canadian team.
“I’m really happy for all the fans, my teammates, the coach,” Rodriguez said. “We deserved that. We work every day so hard. I’m really happy to win the last game with our fans in Seattle. This feeling is amazing.”
