The Orlando Pride closed out their 2019 NWSL season on Saturday night at Exploria Stadium against Reign FC. Although it wasn’t a win in the standings, it was a victory in some respects. The match, billed as the club’s first ever Breast Cancer Awareness Match, featured Pride defender Toni Pressley’s return to the pitch for the first time since undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
It was an emotional return for Pressley and her teammates and the Pride snatched a late goal back from Marta to earn a 2-2 draw against the playoff-bound Reign. Marta nearly scored a late winner too if not for a great save from Casey Murphy.
Orlando’s season is over as the NWSL playoffs get underway. The draw wasn’t a win but the team did play well enough to earn three points. It was a good performance to take into the off-season. Meanwhile, we hope you enjoy these photos from the match.
