Orlando City midfielder and vice-captain, Will Johnson, was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail this morning after allegations of misdemeanor domestic abuse.

Johnson is in the process of divorcing his wife, Caroline. Here’s the arrest report’s version of what happened this morning:

Johnson, in his 11th MLS season, joined the Lions after playing for Toronto FC in 2016. The 30-year-old midfielder played for Orlando City Head Coach Jason Kreis with Real Salt Lake from 2008 to 2012. This year, Johnson has accumulated two goals in 25 games.

This is the second arrest for Orlando City in 2017 after star striker Cyle Larin was arrested for driving under the influence on June 15. Johnson will likely have to go through MLS’ Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health (SABH) program as Larin did earlier this year.

In an official statement by the league, MLS stated that, “Johnson has been suspended pending investigations by MLS and the Orlando Police Department.”

Orlando City released the following statement this afternoon.

“Orlando City SC midfielder Will Johnson was arrested early Wednesday morning in connection with an alleged domestic dispute. We are working closely with MLS and local authorities through this matter and fully support the League’s decision to suspend the player pending further investigation. The Club will not provide further comment until the investigation into this alleged incident is complete.”

We will continue to monitor this situation and update this story as needed.
