Pride Pub: Orlando City at New York Red Bulls

We’re bringing you the grub and grog selections for the match against the Red Bulls this Saturday!

Note: We at The Mane Land believe in the responsible consumption of alcohol. If, as an adult of legal drinking age, you decide to drink alcohol, we urge you to please ensure you do so in a safe manner, and never drink and drive.

Welcome back to Pride Pub. Orlando City heads to the Big Apple to take on the New York Red Bulls. On the road again, and the Lions could really use a win. Will we get it against a very good Red Bulls team? That’s a tough one, but all we can do is enjoy some fine brews and some delicious food.

Just a reminder on how this works: we choose a craft beer from the country/state/city of our opponent and we include an appropriate recipe to go along with it. Of course, we also choose a Florida craft beer to complement our other recipe and to represent our Orlando City Lions here in the beautiful Sunshine State.

From New York City: Summer Ale, Brooklyn Brewery

After a long road that started by tasting beers brewed by diplomats in the Middle East (where alcohol is prohibited), Steve Hindy decided he wanted to brew beer as well. Partnering with Tom Potter, the two started their first deliveries of Brooklyn Lager in 1988, and have greatly expanded to include this excellent summer ale.

According to the brewery:

"Summer in Brooklyn is all about following your impulses, winging it from beaches and barbecues to stoops and rooftops. Brooklyn Summer Ale is a refreshing, flavorful pale ale made to accompany you on all your warm weather adventures. 100% British 2-row barley brings its famed bready flavors, capped off with German and American hops to provide a snappy, clean bitterness and a bright, floral aroma. It's a sunny pale ale, Brooklyn style.”

Pair with: Brewmaster Burgers. Brooklyn Brewery went to the trouble of providing a specialized burger recipe to have with their summer ale. It would be rude not to use it.

Dave’s Recommendations: Grilled Sweet Potato Wedges. A touch healthier than regular potatoes, and no less delicious, these sweet potato wedges will complete the meal for you this weekend.

From Florida: Deep Roots Vienna Lager, Red Cypress Brewery

In October of 2015, Ryan, Nancy, and Ashlynn founded Red Cypress Brewery with the goal of bringing artisanal ales to Florida. This is their first time in the Pub, and I think you’ll agree this lager was worth the wait.

According to the brewery:

"We’ve put the “red” in Red Cypress with a refreshing hybrid of German and American styles! With aromas of crusty baked bread, a balanced hop bitterness and a clean, dry finish, this approachable ale proves our roots run deep."

Pair with: Spicy Pork Roast. The Vienna Lager will offset the spice of the pork roast for an enjoyable combination. Plus, since they put the “red” in the beer, I thought we’d reciprocate, and pork is big in the south.

Dave’s Recommendations: Rosemary Potatoes. It’s already in the recipe for goodness sake. If you want something else, fix a salad!

That’s going to do it for this edition of Pride Pub. Please let us know which pairing you made for your watch party or family and comment below. Thanks for your patronage and go City!
