Note: We at The Mane Land believe in the responsible consumption of alcohol. If, as an adult of legal drinking age, you decide to drink alcohol, we urge you to please ensure you do so in a safe manner, and never drink and drive.

Welcome back to Pride Pub. This Saturday, Orlando City heads to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Fire. Chicago is sitting near the top of the table in the Eastern Conference, and road wins can be hard to come by in MLS, but hopefully the Lions will be able to come away with all three points.

Just a reminder on how this works: we choose a craft beer from the country/state/city of our opponent and we include an appropriate recipe to go along with it. Of course, we also choose a Florida craft beer to complement our other recipe and to represent our Orlando City Lions here in the beautiful Sunshine State.

From Chicago: Goose Island IPA, Goose Island Beer Company

Despite now being owned by InBev, Goose Island is the oldest craft beer company in Chicago. Their IPA is a solid example of an East Coast IPA, and easily available.

According to the brewery:

"Our India Pale Ale recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result is a hop lover’s dream with a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, and long hop finish.”

Pair with: Chicago Style Polish Sausage Sliders. A cool take on the traditional Chicago style hot dog. This is an especially good way to serve up food for your guests at the watch party!

Dave’s Recommendations: Chicago Style Cottage Fries. By making cottage fries instead of traditional cut french fries, we’re keeping the side dish the same shape as the main dish. Plus, they’re a little different and that can be a good thing.

From Florida: Guayabera Citra Pale Ale, Cigar City Brewing

Cigar City is one of the biggest breweries in Florida, and I’m certain you’re familiar with many of their brews. This citra hopped pale ale is a special release, and not available year round. As such, we’re going to take advantage of the opportunity and enjoy it now.

According to the brewery:

"Traditional throughout Latin America, the guayabera shirt combines style, functionality, form and tradition in it’s four-pocketed design. We at Cigar City feel the same reverence and appreciation for the guayabera that we do for the Citra hop varietal, an ingredient that imparts notes of tangerine, lime and berries to this traditional American Pale Ale. The exclusive use of Citra hops in this beer creates a flavor that’s at once unique and recognizable, while it’s dry, crisp character and moderate alcohol make it as refreshing and functional as a crisp linen guayabera."

Pair with: Meatball Subs. Pale ales pair well with just about anything, and perhaps it’s been a while since you have had a meatball sub. Well, lucky for you we’ve the recipe you need to make it happen.

Dave’s Recommendations: Oven Fries. You may not have noticed, but there was an extra recipe at the end of the meatball subs recipe for the oven fries. Go ahead, go look again.

That’s it for this edition of Pride Pub. Let us know which pairing you decided on for your watch party in the comments below. Thanks for your patronage and Go City!
