It's not every day that you get to open a new stadium, but Orlando City did just that with a 1-0 victory over rival New York City FC yesterday. More than 25,500 screaming fans in purple filled the brand new Orlando City Stadium with noise and color and willed the Lions on to a huge win despite the early loss of team captain Kaká very early in the match.
Cyle Larin did the damage on a beautiful cross from newcomer Giles Barnes, playing in his first match in purple. He's only been with the team for a few days and it's nice to see him contributing right away, even if it wasn't under the best of circumstances.
If you didn't get a chance to attend the game, these photos should help paint the picture of what it was like to be there. If you were there, you'll want to relive the pageantry and excitement of Orlando City's first season-opening win since joining Major League Soccer.
Enjoy the photos.
