Rise ’n Shine, Mane Landers! The second week of MLS activity has concluded and, although we didn't see our beloved Lions play, there was plenty of action in and around the club. The new stadium keeps on giving us plenty to talk about, there are new weekly power rankings, and much more! Let’s get to it.
Joe Bendik Inks Contract Extension
On the heels of being arguably Orlando City’s best player against NYCFC in our debut win, Joe Bendik has extended his contract with the club through the 2020 season. It seems like you can't get enough of a good thing! Joe has been one of the best keepers in MLS since coming to Orlando last year, so it’s good to have him long-term.
Seb Hines Goes Under the Knife
Lions central defender Seb Hines underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee last Thursday, the club announced Monday.
"Seb's surgery went very smoothly and with no complications," said Daryl C. Osbahr, MD, Chief of Sports Medicine at Orlando Health and Orlando City SC team doctor. "We expect his recovery to go well and to have him back on the field as soon as possible."
He is expected to miss around six weeks of playing time. Expect to see you soon, mate!
Spectrum to Partner with Orlando City Stadium Team
Did you have any Wi-Fi problems on March 5? Those hiccups could all be coming to an end as communications powerhouse Spectrum is teaming up with the Orlando City Stadium team looking to provide the fans with an even better experience. Spectrum Enterprise will be providing enterprise-grade networking and managed services, including managed Wi-Fi, fiber internet access, and hosted voice. Could we ask for more from our awesome new home? I think not.
Orlando City Stadium Draws More Rave Reviews
Speaking of the new home, the atmosphere around the Lions’ first win was complemented by the official christening of the new downtown stadium. Critics from all over have bowed to the magnificence of the design by the famed architects at Populous. The latest comes our way from The18, which highlights some of the many amenities our gem of a home has to offer.
New Weekly Power Rankings
As we all know, Orlando City got a weekend off due to unexpected weather in the New England area. Luckily that didn’t affect much in the Power Rankings for the Lions. With the second week already behind us, we have a better idea of which teams to look out for. Portland and Houston and the New York Red Bulls are all off to perfect starts.
Schweinsteiger to MLS Next Season?
It's no secret that Bastian Schweinsteiger has been linked with an MLS move after his lack of matches under José Mourinho in Manchester. Chicago Fire Confidential’s Guillermo Rivera tweeted yesterday that the club is negotiating with the German World Cup winner who would be arriving next season. This news comes after Sunday when Juventus' fellow German World Cup-winner Sami Khedira said he would like a move to MLS in the near future. Will the Lions make a move for either of these champions? We are yet to see.
There you have it. As the Northeast prepares itself for another massive snow storm, let's hope this doesn’t affect the Union’s travel plans. And most importantly, let us continue the one-game win streak. See you next week, Lions!!
