With the 2017 NWSL season starting in about a month, the Orlando Pride have released their preseason schedule. Today they had the first training session of their second year to kick off a preseason that will hopefully lead to better results than last season’s ninth-place finish.
Similar to last year, most of the opposing sides will be collegiate teams. Their first game will be on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m. against Stetson University at Sylvan Lake Park. They will be without five players, including star forward Alex Morgan who is currently on loan to Olympique Lyonnais, and defenders Steph Catley and Alanna Kennedy, who just completed Algarve Cup duty with Australia.
The club will play South Florida at Corbett Stadium in Tampa on Saturday, March 25 at 6 p.m., and follow with a trip to Gainesville to play the University of Florida on Wednesday, March 29 at 4 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The Pride return to Sylvan Lake Park for the final two friendlies — hosting Florida State University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, and the United States U-23 National Team at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 7.
The games will be played behind closed doors but The Mane Land will keep you posted on results and all the important talking points.
