Pride Pub: Orlando City vs. Columbus Crew

The grub and grog selections for your tailgate or watch party for the match against the Crew!

Note: We at The Mane Land believe in the responsible consumption of alcohol. If, as an adult of legal drinking age, you decide to drink alcohol, we urge you to please ensure you do so in a safe manner, and never drink and drive.

Here we are at the penultimate Orlando City match of the 2017 season, and after the failure of the USMNT to qualify for the World Cup, I can use a beer. The Lions host Columbus Crew SC this Sunday, and will probably win since it won’t matter. Let’s enjoy the little bit of soccer we have left with some good brews and food.

Just a reminder on how this works: we choose a craft beer from the country/state/city of our opponent and we include an appropriate recipe to go along with it. Of course, we also choose a Florida craft beer to complement our other recipe and to represent our Orlando City Lions here in the beautiful Sunshine State.

From Ohio: Siberian Night Imperial Stout, Thirsty Dog Brewing Company

Thirsty Dog Brewing Company was founded by John Najeway in 1997. It started out as a small brewpub, and has grown substantially into an excellent craft beer brewery. John took inspiration from his dogs when naming the company, since many of us are passionate about man’s best friend, and beer.

According to the brewery:

"Imperial Stouts are by far the ‘GRAND DADDY’ of all stouts. They are very, very dark and rich, with a deep-roasted, satisfying flavor. Siberian Night is made in this tradition. It is creamy and full bodied with a complex character from generous amounts of roasted, toasted and caramel malts. For those who demand flavor, this is the perfect libation. Bronze Medal Winner at the 2003 Great American Beer Festival, 2005 Gold Medal Winner, 2006 Bronze Medal Winner."

Pair with: Blue Cheese Steak. Big beers deserve big flavors, and the combo of the blue cheese with the steak will stand up to the imperial stout.

Dave’s Recommendations: Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes. We’re going to keep the flavor train running with these delicious mashed potatoes.

From Florida: Citrus Kicker IPA, Crooked Can Brewing Co.

Crooked Can Brewing Company is one of the featured breweries available in Orlando City Stadium. They support the Lions, and as such deserve our support. This zesty IPA is quite the juicy treat, and I’m certain you’ll enjoy it.

According to the brewery:

"This IPA is a celebration of the rich history of the once flourishing citrus industry found throughout Winter Garden, Florida. We brewed this refreshing IPA with a heavy hand of local orange and grapefruit zest allowing us to enhance the citrus hop profile. For that reason, we kept the malt profile on the lighter side which allows the hops and citrus fruits to steal the show. You’ll get a kick! out of sipping these juicy suds. ABV (6.4%) IBU’s (61).”

Pair with: Jamaican Jerk Chicken. With the fruity almost island-like flavors in the beer we’re going to go island with the jerk chicken. If you haven’t had the pleasure of jerk chicken before, you’ll get a kick out of it.

Dave’s Recommendations: Black beans and rice. A perfect pairing for the delicious chicken.

Thanks for stopping by Pride Pub, and please let us know in the comments which pairing you decided on for your tailgate or watch party. Go City!
