Welcome back to the Pride Pub! This Sunday, Orlando City heads to the City of Angels to take on the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center. We’re on short turnaround after last night’s match against Montreal, so let’s not waste any time.
Just a reminder on how this works: We choose a craft beer from the country/state/city of our opponent and we include an appropriate recipe to go along with it. Of course, we also choose a Florida craft beer to complement our other recipe, and to represent our Orlando City Lions here in the beautiful Sunshine State.
From California - Stout West Coast Style, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company
Started in 1979, Sierra Nevada is one of the first craft breweries in the United States. Since that time, they have been consistently one of the best in the land, and the stout is no exception.
According to the brewery:
"Before Sierra Nevada was a reality, our founders brewed beer at home and dreamed of building a brewery one day. Back then, they brewed the beers they wanted to drink - bold and full of flavor. Stouts had always been a favorite, so when we needed a big and rich beer to test out the brewing system at our fledgling brewery, stout was the obvious choice. Thirty years later, not much has changed. We’re still brewing the beers we want to drink and our classic Stout is the same as it’s ever been - big, rich, bold, black as night and filled with the wild-eyed passion of which dreams are made."
Pair with: Chicken with Mexican Mole Sauce. Straight from the Sierra Nevada website, the Mole sauce is chocolaty and spicy, two tastes that go well with Stouts.
Dave's recommendation: Serve over Restaurant Style Mexican Rice, it will be a great combo with the spice and tomato flavors of the rice.
From Florida - Cloud Chaser Hefeweizen, Crooked Can Brewing Company
Kent Waugh and Nolan Clark are the Brewmaster and Head Brewer, respectively, who are bringing forth the beers with swagger, from the upstart Winter Garden brewery. With their second appearance in the Pub, we go a little lighter with this excellent Hefeweizen.
According to the brewery:
"Brewed and cellared just as they would in the mother country, this 5.3% ABV German wheat beer has voluminous fruit and spice characteristics with prominent banana and clove notes to be experienced in both smell and taste. This award winning taproom favorite has a signature yeast character that makes the beer, which lends to its inviting haze."
Pair with: Lemon Pepper Scampi. Hefeweizen’s always pair well with shellfish, and the lemon will enhance the tastes of both.
Dave's recommendations: We’re going to mix in the shrimp with some penne pasta to add some heft to the meal.
Thank you for stopping by the Pride Pub. As always, please comment below and let us know what you think. Vamos Orlando!
