Things looked pretty good at halftime at Camping World Stadium last night as Kristen Edmonds' beautiful free kick goal had the Orlando Pride on top of visiting Sky Blue FC at the break. The two teams had battled through an evenly played first 45 minutes and Edmonds' strike was all that separated the two sides.
But Sky Blue came out flying and scored twice early in the second half to put the Pride in catch-up mode. Samantha Kerr and Maya Hayes found the net and turned it over to the Sky Blue defense. Solid defenders like Christie Rampone and Kelley O'Hara dug in deep and made life difficult for the Orlando attack. Laura Alleway, playing her first match since the Olympic break started, had a late opportunity to pull the Pride level with a header off an Alex Morgan cross, but it missed the target and the visitors split town with all three points.
The Pride are winless in seven, but there are signs in the last two games that the bleeding is -- if not stopping -- at least slowing down. Orlando will try to finish its inaugural NWSL campaign with a win on Sept. 24, when FC Kansas City visits Camping World Stadium.
