Pride Pub: Orlando City at Columbus Crew

Welcome back to Pride Pub, where we maximize your tailgating experience for Orlando City matches. This week, we’re getting you ready for the match against the Columbus Crew with your grub and grog selections. Whether you’re hosting a watch party or simply spending time with the family, you’ll be the host with the most!

Welcome back to the Pride Pub! Orlando City is coming off a draw (how many times to we have to say that this year?), and looking to get three points to jump up the Eastern Conference table. We’re going to do what we can to help. By help, I mean eat, drink, and hopefully be merry!

(Well maybe not that Merry)

Just a reminder on how this works: we choose a craft beer from the country/state/city of our opponent and we include an appropriate recipe to go along with it. Of course, we also choose a Florida craft beer to complement our other recipe, and to represent our Orlando City Lions here in the beautiful Sunshine State.

From Ohio - Citra Dog, Thirsty Dog Brewing Co.

Founded by John Najeway, Thirsty Dog has been brewing excellent beer for the Ohio area and beyond since 1997. Interestingly, the name of the brewery was inspired by Najeway’s own four-legged friends. Man’s best friends...our dogs and our beers!

According to the brewery:

"American IPA bursting with citrus aromas and flavors. You’ll find evidence of tangerine, grapefruit, orange and mango in the aroma from the multiple additions of a single hop variety, Citra. There is also a nice malt balance in this bitter, full bodied, doglicious IPA that is a citrus lover's delight."

Pair with: Spicy Beer Brats! Citrusy IPAs do well with spicy dishes, and since the Lions are headed to the Midwest, brats are definitely on the menu.

Dave's recommendations: There’s a definite German influence in the American Midwest, so let’s cook up some traditional sauerkraut! To be fair, this is quick and easy sauerkraut, since the true homemade variety takes quite a bit longer. Regardless, it will still be great with the brats and the beer.

From Florida - Crooked Coral, J’Dubs Brewing Co.

According to the brewery:

"A crushable American Amber Ale with lots of malt flavor, caramel and a touch of rye (rye not?). Balanced bitterness and a medium finish. Fantastic with food."

Fantastic with food? Well, yeah that’s our whole raison d’etre.

Pair with: Reuben Sandwich. Evidently, I’m making everyone have sauerkraut this week. Still, a good reuben will go well with the amber ale, so enjoy. Of course, you can skip the sauerkraut if you’d like.

Dave's recommendations: We’re going to keep it simple this week. Find your favorite chips to have with the sandwich. Mine are UTZ brand.

Thank you for stopping by the Pride Pub. As always, please comment below and let us know what you think. Vamos Orlando!
