2016 MLS Draft: Orlando City Selects Defender/Midfielder Antonio Matarazzo

Orlando City selects defender/midfielder Antonio Matarazzo out of Columbia in the third round of the MLS SuperDraft.

Orlando City selects defender/midfielder Antonio Matarazzo out of Columbia in the third round of the MLS SuperDraft with the 48th overall pick.

Born and raised in Fair Lawn, NJ, Matarazzo played four years with the Columbia Lions (I guess he likes being a Lion), where he received All-Ivy Honorable Mention honors twice (his freshman and junior years), as well as All-Ivy Second Team honors this past season. He netted seven goals and four assists in his four years, with the majority of those goals coming in his sophomore year.

Consistently ranking among the team's leaders  for assists and minutes played, Matarazzo has a strong shot and excellent ball control. Based on the video below, he also sees the field extremely well and can be an asset distributing the ball from deep. He was one of only two Ivy Leaguers selected to attend the MLS Combine.

He provides some versatility with his ability to play multiple positions. Matarazzo is likely to spend next season kicking it around with Orlando City B if he can stick with the club. Here are some highlights:
