Reports are swirling that Orlando City could be shipping Donovan Ricketts to Los Angeles to open up roster space for Adrian Winter and David Mateos.

After being demoted to a reserve role when Tally Hall came back from injury, Orlando City goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts is reportedly on his way out of town.

LA Galaxy reporter Adam Serrano and Orlando Sentinel Orlando City beat man Paul Tenorio each reported Wednesday night that a deal for Ricketts with the LA Galaxy could be completed shortly.

The deal doesn't come as a surprise, as Orlando City had to clear roster space to meet the 28-man limit after signing defender David Mateos and midfielder Adrian Winter on Wednesday.

Ricketts started the first 10 games in goal, but after Hall returned from an ACL injury, he was demoted to the bench and the 38-year-old hasn't seen action since.

On Wednesday, the Galaxy announced they were parting ways with goalkeeper Jaime Penedo, so the need for a man between the posts is there for them. It's a bit of a homecoming for Ricketts, as he started 70 regular season games for Galaxy from 2009-2011 and won MLS Goalkeeper of the Year there in 2010.

What Orlando City will receive in return for Ricketts is unclear, but it likely won't be much, as the move was made more to clear a roster spot. The club seems comfortable going forward with rookie Earl Edwards Jr. as Hall's backup.

Ricketts allowed 14 goals in his 10 appearances this season.
