Orlando City SC is set to host Major League Soccer's annual Generation Adidas Cup tournament this weekend in Sanford.
Previously known as the SUM U-17 Cup, the tournament is part of the league's 'Home Grown Initiative' and has been held since 2007. The competition will be this weekend at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Sanford, and will feature academy teams from Orlando City, Philadelphia Union, Toronto FC, New England Revolution, D.C. United, and New York Red Bulls.
The event is open to the public, and will be an excellent opportunity for City fans to catch a glimpse of the young Lions who will be aiming to make the jump to MLS in a few years. With the strong emphasis on 'Home Grown Players' in Major League Soccer, Orlando City will surely be trying to establish their youth academy as a top destination for young talent.
D.C. United's U-17s have won the tournament in three of the last seven years, but a visiting Stoke City side claimed the title in 2014.
